Insane fishing out of Hillsboro Inlet
OAPB Fishing Charters is based out of Hillsboro Inlet, because the ledge drops from 60′ to 300″ allowing for great Pelagic Fishing. Over 18 wrecks throughout the area allows for insane Wreck Fishing too. Swordfish grounds are an easy 10 mile run, and Daytime Sword-Fishing is a must while in Pompano Beach.
Dolphin Fishing (Mahi-Mahi)
Dolphin(Mahi-Mahi) are extremely acrobatic, gorgeous colors, and will always put on a show when your tight.
Sword-Fishing
Daytime Swordfishing is one of a kind. These enormous fish find a home in the Swordfish grounds around 2,000 feet deep, and 15-18 miles from shore. They get their Swordfish name from their distinctive bill. Daytime Swordfishing is year round fun.
Pelagics-Wahoo
Zebras of the sea. Wahoos are notorious for their speed and agility. Once hooked they take off, and provide a serious fight to get in the boat. Known as one of the fastest Pelagic Gamefish.

Blackfin Tuna
The back is a dark, metallic blue, sides are silvery-gray and the belly is white. Many have traces of a bronze-colored line down each side, and it nice when we see that. But, the most reliable identifying characteristic is the color of the small finlets located behind the dorsal and anal fins. In the other species of tuna, they are yellow or yellow tinged. In blackfin, they are distinctly dark.
This tuna is short-lived, and abundant. On some days, when it seems as if aliens have arrived, and secretly swiped away all our fish, the blackfin remain.
It is a fast-growing species, though commonly only weighs about 15 pounds. We sometimes encounter large schools where the average weight is 25 – 30 pounds, and in rare cases, we’ll see blackfin tuna that exceed 40 pounds. No worries, though, what these fish lack in size, they make up for in numbers and their willingness to bite.
Wahoo
These fast paced fish are a helluva a challenge. Their strength, fast runs and fierce nature make them among the most prized of all big game fish in South Florida, and they make for “unreal” table fare.
Common at 30-50 pounds, but they can grow up to 90 – 100. Crazy good table fare. Most consider it better than tuna sashimi. But, … cook wahoo at high temps, and quickly to seal in the flavor. It also is a good smoking fish
Wahoo strike surface baits in spectacular fashion, but seldom jump after being hooked. Fights are often marked by a series of sizzling runs, usually at or near the surface. Wahoo are one of the fastest of all gamefish
Dolphin (Mahi-Mahi)
Our season for Dolphin is year round, where we find them roaming the open waters offshore, in big schools in a never-ending search for food.
Fast and aggressive swimmers, Mahi-Mahi are also known as Dolphin.
The great thing about catching Mahi-Mahi is that you won’t just catch one! They eat, constantly. They bite, at everything. And, … once hooked, they jump, skip and careen across the water in a acrobatic feast for the eyes as their already impressive colors, turn positively neon where they truly shine
Sailfish
Prized by many, but few claim victory. With sailfish, having an experienced team at your helm — along with a good measure of patience is key to the catch.
Sailfish can be found nearshore or far offshore, but timing is everything. Dedicate a day to seeking out sailfish, and OAPB Fishing will help you come home with that experience you were looking for.
Sailfish run to an average of 30-60 pounds, with many coming in under 30 pounds. It is rare, but sometimes we land a few above 80 pounds. Louisiana record is 96 pounds.
Swordfish
Color is mostly dark brown on the tops, though sometimes this tends to look purple. Undersides are whitish, silver. Another interesting body feature of the swordfish is it’s large eyes. Fascinating to many, as evidence by one that washed ashore Florida in 2012.
Making a day drop on the way in from the tuna grounds can be the perfect way to finish your trip of a lifetime!
The best months for Swordfish are in the Spring and Summer, and … daytime sword fishing is a fun treat for the anglers that just have to see and experience it all.
King Mackerel
King mackerel are among the most sought-after gamefish. Known throughout the sportfishing world for their blistering runs, the King Mackerel matches its distant relative, the wahoo, in speed. They are taken mostly by trolling, using various live and dead baitfish, spoons, jigs and other artificial lures. They are also taken recreationally by trolling with planers, heavy tackle and lures similar to those used by sport fishers. Typically when using live bait bump trolling or kite fishing. The first may be a treble or single and is hooked through the live bait’s nose and/or mouth. The second hook (treble hook) is placed through the top of the fish’s back or allowed to swing free. This must be done because king mackerel commonly bite the tail section of a bait fish. When trolling for kings using this method, it is important to make sure the baitfish are swimming properly.
